From the Frontier

At the end of last year, Google unveiled Willow, their state-of-the-art quantum chip. If you’re looking for a potential long-term Nvidia killer, don’t look further. Google recently said that commercial quantum computing applications could arrive within five years, which could represent a paradigm shift for AI hardware. Stay tuned.

Effective heat dissipation is key to reduce energy demand for data centres. Cooling energy is estimated to be between 30% to 40% of data centre energy consumption and to consume billions of tons of water per year.

Research is very active in the field, and promising materials are being explored to improve heat dissipation and prevent malfunctions. A proposition of liquid-infused nanostructured composites was published in January 2025, among promising routes to improved energy efficiency.
